RECYCLING COMMUNITY
CENTER

Assigned under Mr Nazmi, in a group of 8, we are tasked to do a simple site analysis of Taman Desa as our future individual project. We observe and analyze the data from each big group and compile it under one board.

Taman Desa is a dense and populated urban area. As population arise, they tend to create more human waste. By having them to practice the 3R and turning it into a habit, it will help to curb the on-going problem. But the ideology of enforcing 3R into the citizen’s mind set of Taman Desa is deemed impossible, as the 3R is an activity that requires an active community working side by side to make it feasible and sucessful. This is because the community are contented with their current lifestyle and breaking their bubble will results in an adverse effect.
The idea of having the citizens to work together are also seems too far fetch. Why? This is because through observation, there is a community social gap between the citizen. Their human interaction was poor as they percieved their neighbouring people as either threat or having bad intention due to the increasing crime rate in Tamn Desa’s neighbourhood. The buildings are arranged very closely together portraying the community are living very closely, showing an “intimacy” between the each other.
In order to nourish 3R into the mind set of the community, Connect-ac-tivity aims to create a Recycling Community Center that promotes an intimacy between the community and recycling yet retains each other’s privacy. By using clear line of segregation, different levels of layers, intangible spaces and materiality, Connect-ac-tivity are able to create different zones of specific uses yet running parrallel or perpendicular between each zones to nourish the intimacy. This provides a safe zone for the citizens to slowly accept the idea of 3R at their own pace and embed the ethics of 3R into the heart of Taman Desa’s community.
